What is Cryopen?

Cryopen is a precise, medical-grade cryotherapy device that uses a high-pressure micro-jet of nitrous oxide to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions quickly and safely. By delivering extreme cold only to the targeted tissue, Cryopen ensures minimal discomfort, faster healing, and less risk of scarring compared to traditional freezing methods.

What’s the difference between Lesions and Moles?

Lesions

  • A lesion is any abnormal change or growth on the skin.
  • Skin tags — small, soft, hanging bits of skin
  • Warts — rough, raised growths caused by a virus
  • Age spots — flat, pigmented patches from sun exposure
  • Milia — tiny white cysts under the skin
  • Cherry angiomas — small, bright red or purple benign blood vessel growths
  • Seborrheic keratosis — waxy, raised, wart-like benign skin growths often seen with aging
  • Lesions are usually harmless but sometimes removed for cosmetic reasons or irritation. Further testing prior to removal is occasionally required.
  • CryoPen is commonly used to safely and quickly remove these benign lesions.

Moles

  • Moles are pigmented spots or growths made up of clusters of skin cells called melanocytes.
  • They can be flat or raised and vary in color from light brown to black.
  • Most moles are harmless, but some can change over time and may need medical assessment.
  • Mole removal usually involves careful evaluation and may require further testing prior to removal or onward referral to our minor surgery clinic.

What to Expect

  • Your treatment begins with a consultation to confirm the lesion type and suitability for Cryopen. If needed, a dermatologist image review will be offered for safety. The Cryopen is then applied for a few seconds to freeze the lesion.
  • Some lesions clear after one session, while others may require a repeat treatment after 4–6 weeks for complete removal.

General Info for All Cryopen Treatments

  • Most clients experience mild redness or blistering, which resolves quickly.
  • Lesions typically darken, scab, and shed within 1–2 weeks.
  • Aftercare instructions will be provided to promote the best cosmetic result.
  • Repeat treatments, when required, are offered at reduced rates within 8 weeks.
